- Serpentine will host two epic immersive exhibitions this month. Barbara Kruger: Thinking of
You. I MeanMe. I Mean You opens at Serpentine South from the 1st, while Refik Anadol’s Echoes of the Earth: Living Archive opens at Serpentine North from the 16th. Free. - Welcome in the Lunar New Year at the National Maritime Museum on the 3rd. Take part in family-friendly workshops, discover museum objects connected with south east Asia, and don’t miss the spectacular lion dances held on the Great Map. Free.
- Imagine Children’s Festival returns to the Southbank Centre from the 7th-17th, with highlights including Art Makes People Powerful, Mish Mash Family Trail, The Sticky Dance, Grow, Wonder Gig, Boxed in, The River, Rockaby, Top Draw! and loads more. Free/paid.
- When Forms Come Alive is at Hayward Gallery from the 7th. Undulating, cascading and erupting, the works that comprise this hotly anticipated exhibition call to mind the pleasures of gesture and movement, the poetics of gravity and the experience of sensation. Paid.
- Head to Somerset House from 9th-18th for Libby Heaney’s Heartbreak and Magic, a VR artwork and physical installation dealing with grief; then from the 22nd experience Zheng Bo: Bamboo as Method, which will transform the courtyard into a bamboo garden. Paid/free.
- Celebrating Hackney’s Adventure Playgrounds opens at Hackney Museum from the 10th, and is set to feature personal stories, photographs and objects from people who created, used and worked in adventure playgrounds from the 1950s to today, as well as creative play activities. Free.
- Dinosaur rEvolution opens at the Horniman on the 10th. This colourful exhibition will include five large animatronic models, many accurate cast fossil skeletons and skulls – some touchable, detailed graphics by artist Luis V Rey, dress up, games and more. Paid.
- Museum of London Docklands will host a Lunar New Year event on the 10th-11th, featuring chances to learn to ribbon dance and master martial arts moves. Then from the 12th-18th, the museum’s Migration Celebration! will involve cookery classes and party fun. Free.
- There’s loads on for families at the V&A this half term, including Make-it: Textiles with fashion designer Sadie Williams on the 10th and 17th, and Video Game Dance Party, Drop-in Design: Diva Style and Pop Up Performance: School of Confidence! from 14th-16th. Paid/free.
- British Museum’s Rebellious, Revelling, Rotten Romans festival runs from 12th-16th. Help to grow the museum’s Legion on the Lawn installation and explore the galleries with a time-travelling trolley. There will also be a Join the Legion event for under-5s on the 9th. Free.
- House of Bounce returns to Big Penny Social from 12th-16th, with massive inflatables including a huge bouncy assault course. The space will also be hosting The Together Space‘s February event on the 25th, featuring Mrs H & the Singalong Band, plus lots more. Paid.
- Family Day: Picture This will be hosted by NPG on the 13th. Discover the power of a picture with a day of workshops exploring photographic portraits. Pose, style, capture and create your own pictures, inspired by the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize exhibition. Free.
- Head to Museum of the Home on the 13th for its Around the Table Family Day, featuring artist-led workshops and other family activities. Then on the 18th enjoy a Lunar New Year Family Day organised in collaboration with Kakilang 自己人. Free.
- RIBA Baby returns on the 13th with Sensory Stories for under-3s, hosted by storyteller Dani Bradstreet and featuring lots of sensory objects. RIBA will also host a Design Quest: Brilliant Bridges creative architecture workshop for ages 7-10 on the 16th. Free/paid.
- The Foundling Museum’s half-term workshops return from 13th-16th. Choose from Wearable Sculpture with Phoebe Kaniewska, Spider Animation with Reza Ben Gajra, Winter Lanterns with Harriet Mena Hill or Creepy Crawly Printmaking with Laura X Carle. Paid.
- Head to Young V&A from 14th-16th its One Hundred Yokai Parade event, inspired by Japanese monsters. Draw your own yokai with illustrator Nanami Takeuchi, have a go at designing patterns for a kimono or book onto one of the museum’s family workshops. Free.
- Yoko Ono: Music of the Mind is at Tate Modern from the 15th. The show will explore some of Ono’s most talked-about works, including Cut Piece, where people were invited to cut off her clothing, and Wish Tree, where visitors can contribute personal wishes for peace. Paid.
- NAM is hosting a Blitz Storytelling Trail on the 16th. Go on a time-travelling adventure and help Lauren, a member of the Auxiliary Territorial Service, get back home as you travel through the galleries and learn all about the Blitz. Free.
- The Mosaic Rooms will host Play Lab: Water Binds Us on the 17th. This immersive art and play session will delve into the magical and transformative nature of water, inviting participants to play with projection, movement and mark-making. Free.
- The RA is running an Early Years Studio: Buildings workshop on the 21st, with chances for under-5s to construct, stack and explore buildings. Then on the 25th, families with children of all ages can create their own collaged prints in Family Studio: Print Explore. Free.
