Peruse beautifully made kidswear and toys at the Boundary Estate’s Luna & Curious

Expect comfy-cool clothing designed to endure childhood and accessories you'll coo over in a silly high-pitched voice

What?: ‘Miniature department store’ offering a stylish selection of womenswear, homeware and accessories alongside an absurdly lovely collection of shrewdly designed, beautifully made children’s clothing and toys that you’ll struggle to find elsewhere. In fact, L&C’s kids’ section has proved so successful that after 10 years of gentle nurturing it’s grown up, flown the nest and moved into a place of its own – albeit in the adjoining shop under the watchful gaze of its parent. Expect modern handmade toys with a traditional edge, comfy-cool clothing designed to endure the scrapes and stains of childhood, and obscenely cute accessories you’ll coo over in a silly high-pitched voice.

Where?: Luna & Curious is situated on the historic Boundary Estate, beneath the trees and red-brick facades of the leafy Calvert Avenue and just a stone’s throw from the tranquility of Arnold Circus. Shoreditch High Street (Ginger) is only a couple of minutes’ walk away, or if you’re coming via tube then Liverpool Street (mainline, Central, Circle, Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City) and Old Street (Northern) are both around 12 minutes on foot.

Best Bits: Heavenly location, lovely staff, beautiful shop.

Worst Bits: I’m really struggling to think of any. I’m just annoyed I didn’t discover it sooner.

Price Range: Clothing costs from £20 to £70, toys range from a few pounds for a small wooden animal to £75 for a gorgeous Steiner-style caravan playset, and books average about £15. All in all not too ridiculous given the love and labour that’s clearly gone into everything.

Did We Buy?: I gave Bab one of Ouistitine’s woollen bears to befriend while we looked round and she inevitably proceeded to drown it in slobber as part of some kind of strange toddler bonding ritual. So yeah, we had to buy him really. We also got a pair of cruiser-friendly slipper socks by MP Denmark.

Would We Come Back?: Yes – this is an absolute must if you’re ever in East London, and a wander round the Boundary Estate is always inspiring and lovely.
