20 awesome things to do with kids in London: March 2024

  1. Hello Brain! opens at the Francis Crick Institute from the 2nd. Step inside the marvellous and mysterious world in your head and explore the ever-morphing world that makes you… you, from hallucinations to lab-grown neurons. Free.
  2. Camden Art Centre’s Family Takeover: Hand-Made Folklore workshops will run on the 2nd, 9th and 16th. Make creatures, scenarios and photographic sets rooted in Polish folkloric fantasies, and transform everyday objects into magical sculptures and installations. Free.
  3. Fever’s Disney100: The Exhibition returns to Excel London from the 6th. Expect 10 extensive, themed galleries celebrating renowned classics from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Encanto (2021), alongside interactive Micky & Minnie artworks. Paid.
  4. Head to the British Museum on the 7th for Little Feet: Disco Feet for under-5s. Join the teddies as they imagine the sounds of ancient instruments; move to the beat of the disco; and create a dancing disco decoration to take home. Free.
  5. There’s loads on at Young V&A this month. Explore sensory play activities with your 0-3 in Mini Play on the 8th, 15th and 22nd; make a paper theatre with your 7-14yo in Make-Lab Workshop on the 9th, or take on the Family Design Challenge on the 10th. Paid/free.
  6. The Rainbow Builder is on at Half Moon from 8th-9th. Devised for ages 0-2, this sensory theatrical experience is told through a mixture of storytelling, gentle sensory interactions, sights, and sounds, with a stay-and-play session at the end of the performance. Paid.
  7. Royal Observatory Greenwich is running family activities for British Science Week on the 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th. Uncover the secrets of astrophotography in Observatory Unlocked, and travel to distant worlds in Young Astronomers. Free with paid admission.
  8. The fantastic Family Brunch Bingo is back at Dabbers Hackney on the 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st. Expect a slime station, animal riddles, kids VS parents challenges, tuck shop treats, magical mocktails, disco tunes and brilliant bingo prizes. Paid.
  9. On the 15th, Mother+ is hosting a talk on how to incorporate arts and culture into family life with Christina Rose Brown and Emmy Watts (that’s me). We’ll be sharing our tips for the best places to take kids and there’ll even be special book bundles available to buy. Paid.
  10. Tots’ favourite Track Play will be back at Big Penny Social on the 15th. Designed for ages 18 months and over, this unstructured session will feature giant train tracks, tunnels, stations, garages and bridges – all laid out to start playing with straight away. Paid.
  11. Boxed In is showing at the Albany on the 16th. This heartfelt story explores the unspoken barriers of attitudes, social etiquette and behaviour that surround us. How do you know a barrier is there if you can’t see it? And if you can’t see it, how can you remove it? Paid.
  12. Fraternité Family Day: The Bayeux Tapestry and Beyond will be at Westminster Abbey on the 16th. Create your own Bayeux collage inspired by the drama of 1066, and go on a William the Conqueror story tour around the abbey. Free with paid admission.
  13. Family Art Workshop: Bowie Dress-up Dolls! will be running at the Fitzrovia Chapel on the 17th. Join artist Christina Rose Brown and create Bowie-inspired dress-up dolls to celebrate the chapel’s David Bowie: A London Day by Kevin Davies exhibition. Paid.
  14. Jason and the Adventure of 254 opens at the Wellcome Collection from the 21st. This colourful and immersive installation will feature monumental sculptures and interactive dioramas that challenge perceptions about disability, medicine and the human body. Free.
  15. The Biba Story, 1964-1975 opens at the Fashion and Textile Museum from the 22nd. The exhibition will focus on the years 1964 to 1975, and feature clothing, original photographs, film and other material all chosen by Biba founder Barbara Hulanicki. Paid.
  16. The Paws on the Wharf trail opens in Canary Wharf and Tower Hamlets from the 25th. The trail will feature a collection of 25 larger-than-life guide dog sculptures, each individually decorated with a vibrant design by a talented artist. Free.
  17. Design Museum’s Enzo Mari exhibition opens from the 29th. This unmissable retrospective will span Mari’s 60-year career and bring together furniture, children’s books and games, product and graphic design, as well as more conceptual installation-based works. Paid.
  18. Charlotte Mei’s Like a Melody: Myths, Memories, and Fantasy opens at NOW from the 29th, and will see the artist transform the gallery into an otherworldly realm through paintings, giant figurines and sculptures of ancient artefacts from a parallel universe. Free.
  19. Bluey will be at Kew from the 29th, with a variety of fun outdoor activities and games inspired by fan-favourite episodes of the show. There will even be a chance to meet Bluey at the Gardens at intervals on each day throughout the event. Free with paid admission.
  20. Family Fun: Making a Doll is on at Leighton House on the 30th. Explore toys from Victorian times while designing and dressing a fashionable peg doll companion, in a workshop for inspired by the museum’s Marion and Maud Sambourne exhibition. Paid.
